The décor goes back to the age of the Vikings. A cross between a classic 'strong box' and bridal. Heavy forged iron bands make for longevity. The year was 1869, a good year for marriage. Different, unique. Trousseau means the same thing in both French and English. Bridal boxes were custom made to hold the clothes and fabrics a woman took with her into marriage. A bridal box was a once-in-a-lifetime object that was revered and passed on to future generations. That's why so few surface in the antique trade. Every country and region developed a distinctive style of shape and paint décor. Cabinet maker, blacksmith and village painter together.
